A great steak does not need much: good meat, hot coals and the right seasoning. Follow these five tips for a steak worth bragging about.
1. Bring the meat to room temperature
Take your steak out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking. This helps it cook evenly all the way through.
2. Season generously and early
Press Spykos Steak & Chops firmly onto both sides and leave it for at least 15 minutes. The pepper and garlic base builds a flavourful crust when it hits the heat.
3. Get your coals really hot
You want coals glowing and covered in white ash. You should only be able to hold your hand over the grid for two or three seconds.
4. Do not keep flipping
Let the steak sear for a few minutes before turning. Turn once or twice and avoid pressing it down, which squeezes out the juices.
5. Rest before you slice
Rest the steak for 5 minutes under foil. The juices settle back into the meat, so every slice stays tender.
The same blend works well on lamb chops, pork chops and ribs. See the whole Spykos range for more ideas.
